D3 (networks, systems and services) seminar on reversible computing

27 septembre 2019 @ 10:00 - 11:00

The next Department 3 seminar will take place on Friday September 27th 10:00am at room A008.

The talk will be given by Harun Siljak, researcher from Trinity College Dublin.

Title: Maxwell’s Demon in the communication channel: the reversible perspective

Abstract: Thermodynamics of computation and wireless communications are rarely mentioned in the same sentence: this talk, and the works presented in it aims to show the important relationship of these two scientific and engineering disciplines. What benefits insisting on reversibility in communication channel models, equipment and algorithms involved in wireless communications can bring, and is there an even bigger picture to look at? We will discuss a set of examples and recent results, as well as a roadmap for the future of this pioneering work.

Bio: Harun Šiljak obtained his BoE and MoE degrees in control engineering from the University of Sarajevo in 2010 and 2012, respectively, and his PhD in electrical engineering from International Burch University Sarajevo in 2015. After working at International Burch University and Bell Labs Ireland, he joined Trinity College Dublin as an EDGE Marie Curie Fellow in 2017 to work on his project on complexity and control in distributed massive MIMO. His research interests include complex systems science, physics of computation, reversibility, wave propagation and nonlinear dynamics. His other interests include popular science and science fiction writing, as well as collaborations with artists and writers (https://harunsiljak.com/research/).
