D3 (networks, systems and services) seminar on reversible computing

September 27, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

The next Department 3 seminar will take place on Friday September 27th 10:00am at room A008. The talk will be given by Harun Siljak, researcher from Trinity College Dublin. Title: Maxwell's Demon in the communication channel: the reversible perspective   Abstract: Thermodynamics of computation and wireless communications are rarely mentioned in the same sentence: this talk, and the works presented in it aims to show the important relationship of these two scientific and engineering disciplines. What benefits insisting on reversibility…

D3 seminar on Low Power Wide Area Networks for the Industrial Internet of Things

October 17, 2019 @ 14:00 pm - 15:00 pm
B013

The talk will be given by Dr. Dimitrios Zorbas from Tyndall National Institute. Current Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) protocols suffer from short range links and sometimes long delay due to the multi-hop nature of their topologies. A Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) solution such as the LoRaWAN can resolve those issues, however, the ALOHA-style transmission policy of those technologies makes the delivery of a large number of packets by a large number of nodes impossible . To avoid…

D4 Seminar on Self-localization and mapping in dynamic, acoustic environments

October 31, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
A008

Speaker will be Christine Evers from the Imperial College London. Sound is used in nature to detect, identify and track salient events, to navigate, and to self-localise. The ability to make sense of acoustic signals is therefore a fundamental prerequisite for robots and autonomous systems. Audition – the ability to hear – excels particularly in scenarios where lighting conditions are poor, where salient events are outside of the line-of-sight, and in crowded environments where sensors, such as LIDAR and RADAR,…

D3 seminar: Vehicular Networks

November 14, 2019 @ 13:30 pm - 14:30 pm
B013

The next D3 seminar will take place on November 14th, 13:30-14:30, room B013. Title : "Optimized resource management in Cognitive Radio Vehicular Networks with soft and hard reliability guarantees" by Nicola Cordeschi (Sapienza University of Rome)   Abstract: In current vehicular networks, the communication traffic flows typically generated by safety applications and routed in downlink over the available backbones are of burst-type, presenting inter-arrival gaps of non-negligible time duration that can be opportunistically exploited by Vehicular Clients (VCs). Recent studies…
