SUMMARY:Journée SNT-NSI 2022
DESCRIPTION:La Journée SNT-NSI-2022 aura lieu mercredi 27 avril 2022 au Loria.

SUMMARY:Philosophical aspects of computer sciences : Ethics\, Norms & Responsibility
DESCRIPTION:LUE OLKi Project presents it’s 4th seminar about Philosophical aspects of computer sciences.\nKaroline Reinhardt\, researcher at the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen\, Internationales Zentrum für Ethik/IZEW\, will give a talk entitled « Dimensions of trust in AI Ethics« .\n\n\nThe event will take place online.\nBoth the lecture and the discussion will be in English.\nTo contact the organisation team\, please fill this form.\n\n\n\nAbstract\n\nDue to the extensive progress of research in Artificial Intelligence  (AI) as well as its deployment and application\, the public debate on  AI systems has also gained momentum in recent years. With the  publication of the Ethics Guidelines for Trustworthy AI (2019)\,  notions of trust and trustworthiness gained particular attention  within AI ethics-debates: Despite an apparent consensus that AI should  be trustworthy\, it is less clear what trust and trustworthiness entail  in the field of AI. In this paper\, I give a detailed overview on the  notion of trust employed in AI Ethics Guidelines thus far.\nBased on  that\, I assess their overlaps and their omissions from the perspective  of practical philosophy. I argue that\, currently\, AI Ethics tends to  overload the notion of trustworthiness. It thus runs the risk of  becoming a buzzword that cannot be operationalized into a working  concept for AI research. What is needed\, however\, is an approach that  is also informed with findings of the research on trust in other  fields\, for instance\, in social sciences and humanities\, especially in  the field of practical philosophy. In this paper I sketch out which  insights from political philosophy and social philosophy might be  particularly helpful here. The concept of « insitutionalised mistrust »  will play a special role here.

SUMMARY:Séminaire IA et énergie

SUMMARY:D4 Seminar : Low-resource MT: few-shot learning and historical language normalisation
DESCRIPTION:On next D4 Seminar\, Rachel Bawden (Inria Paris) will speak about Low-resource MT: few-shot learning and historical language normalisation. It will take place on hybrid format. \nAbstract\nHuge progress has been seen in machine translation (MT)\, spurred on by advances in neural architectures. However\, challenges still remain. One of the big challenges is dealing with scenarios that\nare low-resource (where there is little parallel data available). In this talk\, I will present several works dealing with low-resource scenarios and efforts to improve translation and translation-like tasks\, including (i) few-shot learning to integrate new vocabulary into MT\, and (ii) experiments for the normalisation of Modern French into contemporary French.

The first part of the work will be dedicated\nto the elaboration of a state-of-the-art\, taking into account the analysis of existing orchestration\nlanguages\, such as the TOSCA language (Topology and Orchestration Specification for Cloud\nApplications)\, for building and implementing elaborated cloud services\, as well as current\nsecurity mechanisms that have been proposed so far for protecting cloud elementary resources.\nThe second part will consist in proposing a security management framework\, as well as\nautomation algorithms to support the security enhancement of cloud services\, during the\nmigration of resources. This enhancement will potentially rely on both endogeneous security\nmechanisms through the hardening of cloud resources\, as well exogeneous security\nmechanisms based on the activation of chains of security functions. The third part will be\nfocused on the development of a proof-of-concept prototype\, and the performance evaluation\nof the proposed security automation strategies. The analyzed use cases will consider the specific\nrequirements expressed by the H2020 Concordia project\, and will give a specific interest to\nvulnerability management issues.\nkey words : Security\, Enhancement\, Composite Services\, Orchestration\, Cloud\,\nAutomation\, Migration. \nAdrien HEMMER\nPredictive Security Monitoring for Large-Scale Internet-of-Things\nAbstract: Recently\, Internet-of-Things has grown in importance in multiple domain such as\ndomestic with smart-homes or industrial with the industry 4.0. It is complex to manage IoT\ninfrastructure because each of its device can be really different\, in addition they lack power and\ncompute efficiency. Moreover\, to add in complexity\, the devices can be made by several third\nparties that do not use the same protocols for collecting or sending information. As a result\,\nsuch a system is too complex to be absolutely secured\, and is naturally a source of potential\nthreats.\nThe objective of the thesis\, in the context of the European H2020 project SecureIoT\, to define\nand evaluate a predictive security framework for IoT for devices from multiple domains. The\nchallenging goal is to observe evidences of future attacks or misuse by collecting and\nintegrating heterogeneous data. In the new IoT architecture under construction\, a security\nengine has to be designed for the predictive analysis. This engine has to perform a security\nassessment\, using collected data\, and support decision on counter-measures. However\, the\ngathered data have to be meaningful in order to detect abnormal behaviours of systems.\nFurthermore\, the monitoring and collection process have to be scalable to handle complex realtime\necosystem. \nJean-Philippe EISENBARTH\nEthereum’s Peer-to-Peer Network Monitoring and Sybil Attack prevention\nAbstract: Public blockchains\, like Ethereum\, rely on an underlying peer-to-peer (P2P) network\nto disseminate transactions and blocks between nodes. With the rise of blockchain applications\nand cryptocurrencies values\, they have become critical infrastructures which still lack\ncomprehensive studies. In this paper\, we propose to investigate the reliability of the Ethereum\nP2P network. We developed our own dependable crawler to collect information about the peers\ncomposing the network over one month. Our data analysis regarding the size of the network\,\nthe geographical distribution of peers and the churn rate shows good network properties.\nHowever\, in a second time\, we investigate suspicious patterns that can denote a Sybil attack.\nWe find that many nodes hold numerous identities in the network and could become a threat.\nTo mitigate future Sybil attacks\, we propose an architecture to detect suspicious nodes and\nrevoke them. It is based on a central monitoring system\, a smart contract to propagate the\ninformation and an external revocation tool to help clients remove their connections to\nsuspicious peers. Our experiment on Ethereum’s Test network proved that our solution is\neffective. \nOmar ANSER\nAutomation of security counter-measures in Mobile- Edge Computing infrastructure\nAbstract:Nowadays\, cybersecurity is a major concern everywhere with the growth of co\nnnected devices that are beyond common computers. People are connected using their\nsmartphone but also with Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices. Everything tends to be connected\nin buildings\, cars\, factories\, cities\, airplanes… with all the risks that induces.\nTo circumvent these problems\, decades of research and development have led to build new\ntechniques and tools to fight back to the attacks over Internet. Nonetheless\, the number of\nattacks and their magnitude still grow.\nAs a result\, guaranteeing a high level of security is very challenging. New methods to\ncounteract against new threats and attacks will be proposed. However\, a practical problem is to\nproperly use the arsenal of all these techniques: What to use? For which purposes? When? How\nto configure it? What should be given as inputs… Hence\, a large set of questions remain even\nif you assume that you have all possible techniques at your disposal. Unfortunately security is\nstill mostly manual or only assisted. Developing an autopilot for managing the security of\nconnected systems is an ultimate goal but highly challenging.\nThis thesis aims at proposing a framework and techniques to empower the automation of\nnetwork security assuming a highly dynamic environment\, in particular Mobile-Edge\nComputing infrastructure and 5G. \nSession 2\nDebashisha MISHRA\nUAV Cellular Communication for Vertical Industries in 5G and Beyond\nAbstract: UAV and Cellular technology are two mutual beneficial ecosystems. In this\npresentation\, two integration paradigms are highlighted for enabling support towards emerging\nbusiness verticals (e.g.\, automotive\, multi-media\, industry 4.0 etc.) in 5G and beyond systems:\n(1) UAV as an Aerial Base Station (UAV-BS)\, and (2) UAV as an Aerial User of the existing\n5G network (UAV-UE). In the first paradigm (UAV-BS)\, we showcase and reason on the\nemerging network slicing approach for UAV-BS platform catering services from\nheterogeneous business verticals. In the second paradigm (UAV-UE)\, feasibility of realizing\ninter-UAV communication based on cellular Sidelink (PC5 radio interface) is discussed. We\nalso provide a technical overview of potential options to leverage UAV communication in 6G\nera. \nAmalia MACALI\nDesigning exact optimization methods for process synthesis\nAbstract: The main topics of my PhD is the optimization of membrane separation technology.\nMembrane separation technology is often used to achieve gas purification and it can be used in\ndifferent aspects of the industry. The performance of membrane separation depends on the\noperating conditions and the interconnections between the selected equipment. Membranes for\ngas separation can be made of different materials\, and each material leads to different\npermeability performances. When a mixture of gas enters the membrane some components\nhaving low permeability pass through the membrane as in a tube\, forming the retentate output\,\nwhereas other components with higher permeability drop through the material\, forming the\npermeated output of the membrane. When a high level of purity is required\, one separation\nstage is not enough\, and multiple stages are needed. In this case\, a problem of membrane system\ndesign has to be solved where the number of stages\, the interconnections and the operating\nconditions for each stage have to be chosen. The objective function to be considered is the cost\nof the system\, ensuring a certain level of performance in terms of purity and recovery of the\ndesired gas. Up to now\, the problem has been solved using a heuristic global optimization\napproach\, which was a combination of multistart and a problem tailored Monotonic Basin\nHopping. The proposed method was applied to optimize and analyse several well-known and\nimportant gas separation cases. The degrees of freedom of the optimization model were\nincreased case by case considering more parameters as decision variables and optimizing the\nseparation process design. The obtained results were good\, but since the algorithm is heuristic\,\nthere is no guarantee of finding the global optimal solution \nPhilippe GRAFF\nDevelopment and orchestration of microservices for low latency and secure applications.\nAbstract: Within the scope of the ANR project MOSAICO (Orange\, Montimage\, UTT\,\nLORIA)\, this PhD project proposes to design\, implement and validate micro-services based on\noptimized virtualized network functions but integrated in a more global architecture using\nseveral different network programmability technologies.\nTo achieve this ambitious goal\, the project will adopt an experimental methodology organized\nin 4 tasks.\nThe first one will consist in studying the different micro-services architecture for the network\nand selecting the most suitable one for our case study.\nIn a second step\, the identification\, specification and design of micro-services and the definition\nof the global architecture of the project will be carried out in partnership with the other partners.\nThe first function to be created will be a flow classifier based on machine learning techniques\nand allowing the detection of real-time flows in order to process them in a specific way.\nThe specified micro-services will then be implemented and evaluated in a synthetic\nenvironment close to reality in order to verify their adequacy with the strong QoS and security\nconstraints of the project.\nFinally\, the last task that will be carried out jointly with an engineer aims at evaluating the\nwhole solution applied to an immersive service in real conditions such as cloud gaming. \nAlexandre BOURBEILLON\nMeasuring trust in distributed collaborative systems\nAbstract: In recent years\, the growth of the Internet has led to the development of collaborative\ndistributed systems. In such systems\, a large number of users contribute simultaneously to\naccomplish a common task. One of the best-known examples of collaborative distributed\nsystems is Wikipedia\, which is the biggest open encyclopedia existing. Wikipedia’s\nmain objective is to produce neutral and high-quality articles. To achieve this kind of goal\,\nbeing able to measure how well we can trust any user is very important. It allows the platform\nto adapt its policies and other users to adapt their behaviour regarding previous interactions.\nMoreover\, it is an efficient way to design strategies to handle harmful contributors and thus\nincrease the quality of the content and the number of contributors.\nThe objective of the thesis is to define and validate trust metrics that help predict how well a\nuser of a distributed collaborative system will behave in the future based on its previous\ncontributions in Wikipedia. Our aim is to base this metric on the quality of each contribution\nproduced by the user. We investigated the usage of several metrics to compute the quality of a\ncontribution using the notion of longevity. Longevity is a measure of quality based on how well\nthe contribution will survive to future edits and be maintained in the document. \nSession 3\nAmaury SAINT-JORE\nMulti-Agent\, Machine / Deep / Continuous Learning and Augmented / Mixed reality for\nnetworked\, collaborative and mobile robots\nAbstract: The overall objective is to develop a system of interconnected robots seen as Cyber-\nPhysical Systems (CPS) allowing to carry out autonomous missions in complex environments\ninteracting with operators and increasing their context awareness.\n– The primary objective is to help the Human being in different tasks.\n– This multi-agent system is composed of mobile and agile ground robots and aerial UAVs\,\ncapturing different data in the field from several points of views: images\, geolocation\, sounds\,\netc.\n– Data\, information and experiences can be exchanged between robots but also transmitted to\ncomputers carried by one or more operators to help them carry out their mission.\n– Data can be viewed using an augmented / mixed reality headset providing digital and spatial\ninformation.\n– Each agent will be assigned one or more AIs\, to perform object recognition\, environment\nmodelling\, or to define the path and guidelines to be followed\, or to monitor other agents. A\nglobal distributed AI is embedded on the robot\, and the operators will allow the supervision of\neach agent and their associated AI\, as well as assess the state and evolution of the system as a\nwhole.\nThe system continuously adapts the individual and collective response to the situation\naccording to different scales. \nPierre-Antoine RAULT\nAccess Control and Security Mecanisms in Distributed Systems with no Central\nAuthority\nAbstract: Distributed applications are part of our everyday lives\, but too often their good\noperation depends on central servers\, which are single points of failure and performance\nbottlenecks. Designing systems for fully distributed communications however still requires\nporting common mechanisms needed for feature-rich applications: user rights differentiation\,\nend-to-end confidentiality\, administrators and other application-specific roles. We rely on\nconflict-free replicated data types (CRDT) to allow each user to exchange independently and\nconcurrently without coordination\, and present our own CRDT to manage a distributed access\ncontrol policy. To verify that policy stays consistent\, we examine different applicative use cases\npertaining to collaborative edition\, and design conflict resolution strategies at the document and\npolicy levels. In order to guarantee confidentiality in a distributed setting\, we also consider\nsecure communication protocols and how to integrate their operation in a collaborative group.\nTo that end\, we plan to extend our work with a novel CRDT tying key exchanges from select\nasynchronous key exchange protocols to policy operations affecting group membership. \nClelie AMIOT\nTrustworthy cognitive assistants for large-scale collaboration\nAbstract: Collaborative endeavors are happening on an increasingly larger scale. Digitalization\nand globalization allow organizations to collaborate across borders and time zones on projects\nlike commercial releases\, academic research\, or crisis management. However\, those\ncollaborations bring their challenges: ever growing data to parse\, different levels of security\nclearances to manage\, and varying vocabularies\, expertise\, and processes to coordinate.\nCognitive assistants are a promising solution to help decision-making and reduce mistakes\ncaused by this overload of constraints. My thesis investigates how implementing a cognitive\nagent in a large-scale collaboration can be done while maintaining trust in the tool. Indeed\, an\nuntrustworthy tool will not be used or will cause delays by being over-monitored\, such as using\nbackchannels to check the tool’s information and actions. We highlighted a clear difference in\nreception between human and robot assistants\, where people showed higher compliance to a\nchatbot’s advice but lower engagement in the reasoning process. Our work will also investigate\nthe impact of a chatbot assistant on a team’s dynamics performing a collaborative task and how\nit can be adjusted for efficient and trustful collaboration. \nMatthieu NICOLAS\nEfficient (re)naming in Conflict-free Replicated Data Types (CRDTs)\nAbstract: To achieve high availability\, large-scale distributed systems have to replicate data\nand to minimise coordination between nodes. For these purposes\, literature and industry\nincreasingly adopt CRDTs to design such systems. CRDTs are new specifications of existing\ndata types\, e.g. Set or Sequence. While CRDTs have the same behaviour as previous\nspecifications in sequential executions\, they actually shine in distributed settings as they\nnatively support concurrent updates. To this end\, CRDTs embed in their specification conflict\nresolution mechanisms. These mechanisms usually rely on identifiers attached to elements of\nthe data structure to resolve conflicts in a deterministic and coordination-free manner.\nIdentifiers have to comply with several constraints\, such as being unique or belonging to a dense\ntotal order. These constraints may hinder the identifier size from being bounded. Identifiers\nhence tend to grow as the system progresses\, which increases the overhead of CRDT over time\nand leads to performance issues. To address this issue\, we propose a novel Sequence CRDT\nwhich embeds a renaming mechanism. It enables nodes to reassign shorter identifiers to\nelements in an uncoordinated manner. Experimental results demonstrate that this mechanism\ndecreases the overhead of the replicated data structure and eventually minimises it. \nEnzo d’ANDREA\nReusable and Adaptable Machine Learning for Network Security\nAbstract: Cybersecurity is a major concern everywhere with the growth of connected devices.\nThe attack surface therefore increases with the number of devices but also with the number of\napplications they support. Techniques used by attackers and defenders evolved and includes\ncomplex mechanisms with for example massive use of encryption which serves both attackers\nand defenders. As a result\, machine learning and artificial intelligence has become a major field\nof study regarding network security.\nWith the use of Machine Learning comes the problem of choosing the right set of features\,\nmetrics but also algorithm. The reusability of existing results is limited as context-specific\ninterpretation or adaptation is required. There exists some proposal\, especially for port numbers\nor IP adresses\, but proposed metrics are usually too coarse-grained and are far from being\nsatisfactory.\nA major research challenge is the definition of network-based features that are both meaningful\nand reusable in a variety of scenarios. A second challenge is to select the right sets of attributes\nwith the context\, with criteria being for example the contribution to final results\, but also cost\nto collect and transform.\nThe first objective of the thesis is to define new representations of network data as features for\nML algorithms. The second objective of the thesis is to define a method to automatically select\nthe right set of features. \nDiego VEGA\nCombining co-simulation with optimization and learning\nAbstract: The thesis aims to explore the relationships between co-simulation\, optimization and\nlearning having in mind to propose a global decision support approach based on cosimulation.\nThe relationships between co-simulation\, optimization and learning can be\nconsidered in multiple ways. A first point of view can be to consider optimization and learning\nas « beside » the co-simulation tool and being able to execute it to obtain data and/or to modify\nthe parameters or the structure of the multi-model. These relationships can also be conceived\nat different levels: at the level of a component/model or at the level of the composite/system.\nAnother point of view is to consider that optimization and learning are part of the co-simulation\nas a component (and therefore as a model) of decision within the simulated system. The central\nidea of study is to question the DEVS formalism and the associated concept of System\, Entity\nStructure in order to assess to what extent they are compatible with these different notions of\noptimization and learning\, and under what assumptions according to each of the facets\ncompatibility can exist. A first (restricted) case study will be chosen and confronted with a first\nproposal of definitions\, then in an incremental way\, the proposal will be improved and again\nconfronted with one or several case studies.

SUMMARY:D5 Seminar: Yvonne Delevoye
DESCRIPTION:Next D5 Seminar will take place on Wednesday\, 1st December at 11am in the Amphitheater with Yvonne Delevoye\, Professor in Cognitive Psychology at the Université de Lille – Human motor performance ; Leader of the Playful City Lille community-based research project. \nShe will make a presentation entitled « Move your body and I will tell you how you feel: Motor timing to reveal affective states ». \nAsbtract: \nEmotions influence decisions to act. Anger\, fear and joy are coded by contrasting gestures and attitudes in social situations. During my talk\, I will expose the methods and results developed in our laboratory around the general theme of emotional body movements. \nThe aim of our work is to demonstrate that emotions impact not only the decision to act and the gesture to produce\, but also the way a movement unfolds through space and time. \nIn a first study\, I will report how music can change body kinematics both in simple actions (finger tapping) and in gait. In a second study\, we used imagery to trigger emotional movements. Here\, a total of eight actors were invited to recall a life-event that engaged social human events that triggered contrasting states of emotions\, before walking freely through a gymnasium following a marked path. Markers (18) placed on body-joints provided the means to collect 3D kinematics of whole-body movements in a series of 30s gait trials. The findings confirm that high-energy emotions (anger; joy) are characterized by faster gait patterns compared to that observed in low-energy emotions (sadness; contentment). Negative-valanced emotions (anger; fear; sadness) were characterized by closed postures (shoulders in; head down) and more jerky patterns compared to that observed in positive-valanced emotions (joy; contentment). The final part of my talk will present how markerless technology can now offer ecological studies. By applying cross-wavelet techniques\, our work suggests that clustering techniques applied to 3D whole-body actions may offer a window in the cognitive mechanisms of emotional body movements. \nKeywords: Kinematics\, Motor Control\, Time Series\, Affective States\, Posture \n  \n  \nBiography: \nTheme: « Motor tempo\, interactions and emotional body movements »\nAfter a PhD thesis in behavioral neuroscience (Birmingham\, UK – Prof. Alan Wing)\, I studied the role of motor prediction in the emergence of the sense of agency and in the sensory experience of the body in action. The concepts of effort\, tolerance\, pleasure are at the heart of a reflection around emotional body movement. \nTeacher and researcher at the University of Lille since 2004\, I work in a multidisciplinary team to develop studies in action psychology in laboratory-set and natural environments (3D kinematics; physiological responses; eye tracking) and also in virtual reality (UNITY). Through public (ANR) and private fundings\, our results have confirmed that emotional experiences depend on the ability to properly predict expected sensations. We have shown that the spontaneous tempo is the pace for which actions are the easiest to plan and control; it is the pace for which our predictions are the best. Thus\, spontaneous tempo could be the cadence promoting minimal effort for the emergence of pleasurable experiences. \nSince 2017\, we have created a research group to create innovating tools to measure how human adults predict and maintain the same behavior over time. More specifically\, we study the psycho-physiological mechanisms influencing emotional motor behaviors with the analysis of brain activities (FNIRS)\, physiological responses (Empatia) and motor behavior modulations (Qualysis). Various inductions are used as music\, odors and colored designs. \nProfessor in neuropsychology since 2012\, I lead the collaborative project entitled Sport-Plaisir with Decathlon from 2013 to 2016. Today\, I am the main investigator of the Living Lab project POC Playful City\, funded by the University of Lille and the University of Lille MEL from 2018 to 2020. In collaboration with Trinoma\, our future studies will aim to develop increased and interactive sensory environments in the Lille agglomeration using the new generation of markerless 3D camera systems. This project is funded in part by the CNRS (80Prime) and is developed at the Imaginarium Building in Tourcoing. \n

DESCRIPTION:The 3rd Cispa-Loria workshop will take place on 30 November from 9am online.\n\nA day of exchanges with presentations of researchers from CISPA and Loria and brainstorming moments to find joint topics and to make possible collaborations.\n\nProgram:\n\n09: 00 – 09:15 – Opening words by Antoine JOUX and Marine MINIER \n09:15 – 09:55 – How will our cryptographic toolkit and cyber security solutions be impacted by Machine Learning? \nNajwa Aaraj – Chief Researcher at the Cryptography Research Centre at Technology Innovation Institute (TII\, Abu Dhabi\, United Arab Emirates) \nA part of this talk will focus on the impact of quantum computers on cryptographic algorithms and the changes that are required to protect against both passive and active quantum attacks. We cover the new set of post quantum cryptographic (PQC) schemes that are being proposed to protect current and future systems\, the implied security thereof\, as well as their practicality when deployed in real world systems. We also discuss standardization efforts\, industry challenges\, and complexities of the roadmap to transition current cryptographic systems and secure communications solutions to quantum-resistant alternatives.\nWe will also discuss briefly the role of Machine Learning in advancing cyber security solutions\, including (1) cryptographic schemes for privacy preserving technologies; (2) theoretical and implementation-focused (side channel) cryptanalysis techniques; and (3) vulnerability management and automated incident response systems. We cover the role of cryptography in securing Machine Learning models by (1) ensuring confidentiality of both data & model during training and classification; (2) protection of models from being tampered-with or introducing bias for profit or control; (3) protection against model poisoning; and (4) introducing cryptographic randomness in training Deep Neural Networks. \n09:55 – 10:35 – When Fuzzing Meets Crypto – Fuzzing SSL Certificates\nAndreas ZELLER – Professor for Software Engineering at Saarland University and research at CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security \nFormatFuzzer is a framework for high-efficiency\, high-quality generation and parsing of binary inputs. It takes a binary template that describes the format of a binary input and generates an executable that produces and parses the given binary format. From a binary template for MP4\, for instance\, FormatFuzzer produces a MP4 generator\, which can also parse and mutate existing MP4s\, even guided by coverage in the target program. We are currently working on binary templates for inputs as complex as X.509/SSL certificates. This allows systematic parsing\, checking\, mutating\, and producing SSL certificates\, including some with subtle semantic flaws\, to thoroughly test SSL infrastructures\, with thousands of valid (or seemingly valid) inputs per second. \n10:35 – 11:10 – CTET+: A Beyond-Birthday-Bound Secure Tweakable Enciphering Scheme Using a Single Pseudorandom Permutation\nVirginie LALLEMAND – CNRS researcher on security by symmetric cryptography\nBenoit COGLIATI – Research Group Leader at the CISPA on security by symmetric cryptography \nIn this talk\, we propose a construction of 2-round tweakable substitution-permutation networks using a single secret S-box. This construction is based on non-linear permutation layers using independent round keys\, and achieves security beyond the birthday bound in the random permutation model. When instantiated with an n-bit block cipher with κ-bit keys\, the resulting tweakable block cipher\, dubbed CTET+\, can be viewed as a tweakable enciphering scheme that encrypts wn-bit messages for any integer w>1 using 5n+κ-bit keys and n-bit tweaks\, providing 2n/3-bit security. Furthermore\, we propose a new tweakable enciphering scheme\, dubbed AES6-CTET+\, which is an actual instantiation of CTET+ using a reduced round AES block cipher as the underlying secret S-box. \n11:10 – 11:30 – Time break \n11:30 – 12:20- Network Agnostic Protocols for Distributed Computations\nJulian LOSS – Tenure-track faculty at CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security. \nDistributed tasks such as agreeing on a common output (consensus) or joint computation of a public function on private inputs (multi-party computation) are typically studied in two types of models. The first model is the synchronous model\, where parties have synchronized clocks and messages are delivered within some upper known bound. The second model is the asynchronous model\, where no timing assumptions are made. Using the synchronous model (and cryptographic setup)\, it is possible to design protocols that allow to solve the above tasks among n parties that tolerate up to t<n/2 corrupted parties. On the downside\, synchronous protocols\, in general\, lose all security guarantees once synchrony assumptions cease to hold. By comparison\, asynchronous protocols work without any synchrony assumptions\, but can tolerate only t<n/3 corrupted parties\, even if the network happens to be synchronous. A natural question is whether there exist protocols which are network agnostic: they achieve the optimal corruption tolerance in both types of networks.\nIn a recent line of work\, we give a complete answer to this question. More precisely\, fix some thresholds n/3<t_s<n/2\,t_a<n/3. We ask whether there exist protocols that tolerate t_s many corrupted parties whenever the network is synchronous\, but tolerate t_a many corrupted parties even when no synchrony assumptions hold. We show that this is possible if and only if t_a+2t_s<n. \n12:20 – 13:00 – Differential analysis of a cipher using Constraint Programming\nMarine MINIER – Professor for Mathematics and Software Engineering at Université de Lorraine and researcher at LORIA for Information security  \nThe aim of this presentation is to show the problems raised by modeling a differential attack on a given cipher. The main obstacle lies on the difficulty of correctly modeling the XOR operator that increases the size of the search tree. For this\, we will first use high-level the language Minizinc and a SAT solver then the constraint programming language written in Java\, Choco. \n13:00 – 14:00- Lunch time \n14:00 – 16:00 – Brainstorming time (speed-dating- Teams room available by research subject) \n16:30-17:00- Final conclusion by Antoine JOUX and Marine MINIER \n\n \n\nMore about the partnership between CISPA and Loria: https://www.loria.fr/en/cybersecurity-a-franco-german-collaboration-project-on-european-autonomy/

SUMMARY:Day on citizen trust and informatics - DigiTrust - OLKi
DESCRIPTION:Organizing committee : Enka BLANCHARD (DigiTrust)\, Aurore COINCE (OLKi)\, Maïra NASSAU (DigiTrust) \nContext \nRecent events — from the CoViD-19 pandemic to various electoral scandals — have shown that the public’s trust has major impacts not just on policy-making but on the political effectiveness of said policies. \nOn the technological front\, one way of addressing the issue has been to build systems that do not rely on a central authority\, and where the security depends on decentralised actions by all the users. However\, whether it concerns electronic voting or vaccination status\, technical solutions face an uphill fight to obtain public acceptance. \nThis one-day event brings experts from multiple interrelated fields such as voting systems\, accessibility technologies and cybersecurity. They will exchange insights on the impact of public trust on new technological designs\, as well as the reciprocal. \nLink to the videoconference \nProgram\n10:45 Introduction : Christophe CERISARA (OLKi) and Enka BLANCHARD (DigiTrust) \n11:00-12:00 Opening conference on citizen trust in Taiwan during the Covid-19 situation by Audrey TANG\, Digital Minister of Taiwan \nAudrey Tang is a leading figure in East Asian open-source communities and has been Taiwan’s Digital Minister since 2016\, an interesting position for a self-identified anarchist who challenges traditional hierarchical structures on an daily basis. A central part of their work has been on making governemnental websites more accessible to all netizens and promoting full transparency of governmental data. They’ve been at the core of vTaiwan\, one of the most successful participatory democracy projects ever created which has had tangible impact on Taiwanese policy-making and legislature. \n12:00-13:30 Lunch break \n13:30-15:10 E-democracy and citizen acceptance of technologies \nChaire: Ksenia ERMOSHINA (Centre for Internet and Society) \n– Véronique CORTIER (LORIA) \n– Anna ZIELINSKA (AHP) \n– David MONNIAUX (VERIMAG) [to be confirmed] \n15:15-16:55 Trust and technological support systems \nChaire : Enka BLANCHARD\, LORIA \n– Ted SELKER (UMBC Center for Cybersecurity) \n– Ashley SHEW (Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University) \n– Eloïse ZEHNDER (2LPN- INRIA) \n16:55-17:00 Conclusion by Enka BLANCHARD

SUMMARY:2nd Study session on social networks data
DESCRIPTION:The 2nd study session on social networks data organized by LUE project OLKi will take place on Monday 18th October at the Loria Amphiteatre. \nPlease register before 16th Oct : http://enquetes.univ-lorraine.fr/index.php/891174 \n\n\n\n9:30 – 9:45 Welcome coffee\n9:45 – 12:00 Presentations & discussion \nMarie FLESCH (ATILF) – Internet language and gender: an intersectional study of a corpus of Reddit comments \nTomara GOTKOVA and Nikolay CHEPURNYKH (ATILF) – Public Perception and Usage of Environmental Vocabulary: Building and Exploiting a Thematic Social Media Corpus \nAman SINHA (IECL & ATILF) – C-Net: Contextual Network for Sarcasm Detection Nicolas ZAMPIERI – (LORIA) Multiword Expression Features for Automatic Hate Speech \nDetection \nDana RUITER (Saarland University) – Title to be announced \n\n\n\nABSTRACTS \nMarie FLESCH (ATILF) – Internet language and gender: an intersectional study of a corpus of Reddit comments \nThis quantitative sociolinguistic study explores the dynamics of language and gender in a 20- million-word corpus of Reddit comments written by 1044 (mostly American) internet users. It focuses on 11 variables\, including emojis\, emoticons\, acronyms\, apostrophe omissions\, and phonetic spellings. It adopts an intersectional perspective by taking into account cisgender\, transgender\, and non-binary gender identities\, and by examining the interaction of gender with age and ethnicity. \nTomara GOTKOVA and Nikolay CHEPURNYKH (ATILF) – Public Perception and Usage of Environmental Vocabulary: Building and Exploiting a Thematic Social Media Corpus \nWe will present our interdisciplinary research whose main objective is the study of core vocabulary of the environment in English\, with one specific issue in mind: the interplay between domain-specific usage of this vocabulary and its usage in ordinary discourse found on the Internet\, with special attention paid to social networks. Our presentation will cover the following points: technical aspects of building a reference corpus using data extracted from Twitter and Reddit; normalization of raw corpus data; qualitative linguistic analysis of environmental terms (carbon\, carbon dioxide\, …) in the corpus. \nAman SINHA (IECL-ATILF) – C-Net: Contextual Network for Sarcasm Detection \nAutomatic Sarcasm Detection in conversations is a difficult and tricky task. Classifying an utterance as sarcastic or not in isolation can be futile since most of the time the sarcastic nature of a sentence heavily relies on its context. This paper presents our proposed model\, C-Net\, which takes contextual information of a sentence in a sequential manner to classify it as sarcastic or non-sarcastic. Our model showcases competitive performance in the Sarcasm Detection shared task organised on CodaLab under the workshop on Figurative Language Processing\, at ACL 2020 and achieved 75.0% F1-score on the Twitter dataset and 66.3% F1- score on Reddit dataset.

SUMMARY:D5 seminar - Towards Trust in Action Policies: A Research Agenda
DESCRIPTION:The next D5 seminar will be held on Thursday\, October 7\, 2021\, at 11am in LORIA\, Amphi C. It is open to everyone interested!\n\nOur invited speaker will be Joerg Hoffmann\, Professor of CS at Saarland University\, Saarbrücken (and former Directeur de Recherche at INRIA Nancy). \nTowards Trust in Action Policies: A Research Agenda\nAction policies in sequential decision making map states (or state sequences) to actions. Learned action policies\, in particular neural action policies\, are gaining more and more traction in dealing with complex environments under real-time action-decision constraints. But how to ensure trust in such a policy? Within the broad movement in AI towards addressing this question (and many related ones)\, my research group in Saarbrücken explores approaches towards explanation (elucidating trade-offs between different user objectives)\, verification (proving that the policy never enters an unsafe state)\, testing (trying to find cases where the policy is unsafe or otherwise undesirable)\, and visualization (enabling human users to inspect policy behavior). Our research on all these topics is in the early stages; I will outline ideas and first results\, and I’m very interested in collaborations. The talk thus is intended to outline our agenda and start discussions about possible collaborations between my group and LORIA researchers. \n– \nJoerg Hoffmann has been a Directeur de Recherche at INRIA Nancy from\n2009–2012\, and is now a Professor of CS at Saarland University\,\nSaarbrücken. He is a Fellow of AAAI and EurAI. His core research area is\nAI automated planning\, with connections to related fields such as\nverification\, and a recent focus on explainable and trusted AI through\ncombinations of neural and symbolic methods.

SUMMARY:DigiTrust Webinaire : Aleksandr Stepanov

SUMMARY:CISPA - LORIA seminar
DESCRIPTION:The Second Virtual Workshop Day of the French-German Center for Cybersecurity will take place on Thursday\, 20th May. \n02:00 p.m. to 02:05 p.m. Introduction by Prof. Marine Minier and Dr Antoine Joux (Directors of the French-German Center for Cybersecurity)\n\n02:05 p.m. to 02:30 p.m.: Dr Jérôme François (Inria Research Scientist with RESIST Team): In-network security monitoring\nAbstract: Monitoring is a critical task of network operations to serve as support as many other ones such as fault management\, security\, trouble-shooting\, QoS… Recently\, network softwarization empowers the paradigm of programmable networks where network functions or even tasks of these functions can be programmed with high flexibility to fit user or operator needs independently of hardware used. Programming network data-plane allows to program the processing of each packet and is supported by novel technologies like P4. In this talk\, we will bring the gap between data-plane programming with P4 and network monitoring by highlighting what possibilities exist to support an enhance in-network security monitoring rather than offloading the latter to a server as usual. In particular\, we will discuss how complex (malicious) behaviors can be tracked with extended finite state machines and how network switch could support real number operations that is a requirement for expecting AI to be run in-network.\n\n02:30 p.m. to 02:40 p.m.: Q&A\n\n02:40 p.m. to 03:05 p.m.: Dr Antoine Joux (Faculty at CISPA): Subset-sum collisions\nAbstract: In this talk\, we revisit the subset-sum collision problem in a parameter regime where lattice reduction technique are expected to be costly. For this\, we turn to combinatorial algorithms based on the representation technique and show how they can be applied to the subset-sum collision problem. After a survey of the state of the art\, we present two algorithmic strategy: first\, a reduction to the resolution of ordinary subset sum problem and\, second\, a direct application of the representation technique. Quite surprisingly\, for a given number of elements in the subset-sum\, the subset-sum collision problem is (with current algorithms) harder that the subset-sum inversion problem. This contrasts with the general intuition that collisions are easier to find than pre-images.\n\n03:05 p.m. to 03:15 p.m.: Q&A\n\n03:15 p.m. to 03:30 p.m.: Final discussion\n\n03:30 p.m. to 04:00 p.m. Virtual Coffee on gather.town

\nAbstract:  \nRadio Frequency IDentification (RFID ) is a key technology of the Internet of Things (IoT).  RFID has the possibility of enabling  machines to  identify\, control  and localize the physical objects  through networks in real time.  Due to its low cost\, small size and ability to communicate in different environments (liquids\, gas…) without power source\,  RFID is frequently used in different sectors : supply chain management\, electronic security\, retail marketing\, smart university\, military and health-care. RFID is a system composed  by  tags  sensitive to electromagnetic fields created bya reader antenna. Each tag encapsulate a unique identification and can be attached to objects in order to monitor them. However\, many challenges remain to be addressed before  RFID can reach its full potential in the IoT.  Particularly\, readers scheduling and RFID network planning  (RNP)  are among these most important challenges.  Essentially\, the readers scheduling avoids collision and the RNP  assures the most suitable quality of service and cost efficiency. \nOwing to the limited interrogation range of RFID readers\, multiple readers should be deployed to ensure full tag coverage.   The arbitrary deployment of readers causes several problems: wastage of readers\, collision and load imbalance between readers.  Finding the optimal number of readers to deploy so as obtain full tag coverage\, the optimal placement of these readers and the optimal configuration of their parameters is known as an RNP problem.  The RNP problem is a multiobjective optimization problem with a large number of variables and uncertain parameters.   This dissertation presents a new variant of the cuckoo search algorithm  to plan large-scale RFID networks and overcome the deployment challenges described above. In some cases\, a good planning can not completely eliminate overlap between readers\, hence the necessity of readers scheduling to activate the neighbors readers in a different time to avoids collisions.  In this context\, a particular problem known as the Reader-Coverage Collision Avoidance Arrangement (RCCAA) problem has received great attention in the literature.  The RCCAA problem consists in activating  RFID readers and adjusting their interrogation ranges in order to cover the maximum number of tags without collision. In this manuscript\, we propose the maximum-weight-independent-set-based algorithm II to solve the RCCAA problem. Another important problem that has great importance in readers scheduling is  to know the Tag Size Profile  (TSP) of the system.   TSP consists in estimating the size of sub-regions in an RFID system covered by several readers.  In order to achieve this goal\,   the sub-regions are considered as variable and  the adequate linear system is constructed by these variables and solve them.   In this dissertation\, we show that the determination of the minimal set of schedule instances to construct an adequate linear system is NP-hard\, and we propose a time-efficient approximate algorithm based on a k-partial set cover to solve it.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Human Evaluation of NLP Systems (HumEval)
DESCRIPTION:EACL’21\, Kiev\, Ukraine\, 19-20 April 2021\nFirst Call for Papers\nThe HumEval Workshop invites the submission of long and short papers on substantial\, original\, and unpublished research on all aspects of human evaluation of NLP systems\, both intrinsic and extrinsic\, including but by no means limited to NLP systems whose output is language. More on: humeval.github.io. \nInvited Speakers\n\nMohit Bansal\, UNC Chapel Hill\, US\nMargaret Mitchell\, Google\, US\nLucia Specia\, UCL\, UK\n\nImportant Dates\n\nDec 2: First Call for Workshop Papers\nDec 18: Second Call for Workshop Papers\nJan 18: Workshop Paper Due Date\nFeb 18: Notification of Acceptance\nMar 01: Camera-ready papers due\nApr 19-20: Workshop Dates\nAll deadlines are 11.59 pm UTC-12.\n\nWorkshop Topic and Content\nHuman evaluation plays a central role in NLP\, from the large-scale crowd-sourced evaluations carried out e.g. by the WMT workshops\, to the much smaller experiments routinely encountered in conference papers. Moreover\, while NLP embraced automatic evaluation metrics from BLEU (Papineni et al\, 2001) onwards\, the field has always been acutely aware of their limitations (Callison-Burch et al.\, 2006; Reiter and Belz\, 2009; Novikova et al.\, 2017; Reiter\, 2018)\, and has gauged their trustworthiness in terms of how well\, and how consistently\, they correlate with human evaluation scores (Over et al.\, 2007; Gatt and Belz\, 2008; Bojar et al.\, 2016; Shimorina\, 2018; Ma et al.\, 2019; Mille et al.\, 2019; Dušek et al.\, 2020). \nYet there is growing unease about how human evaluations are conducted in NLP. Researchers have pointed out the less than perfect experimental and reporting standards that prevail (van der Lee et al.\, 2019). Only a small proportion of papers provide enough detail for reproduction of human evaluations\, and in many cases the information provided is not even enough to support the conclusions drawn. More than 200 different quality criteria (Fluency\, Grammaticality\, etc.) have been used in NLP  (Howcroft et al.\, 2020). Different papers use the same quality criterion name with different definitions\, and the same definition with different names. As a result\, we currently do not have a way of determining whether two evaluations assess the same thing which poses problems for both meta-evaluation and reproducibility assessments (Belz et al.\, 2020). \nReproducibility in the context of automatically computed system scores has recently attracted a lot of attention\, against the background of a troubling history (Pedersen\, 2008; Mieskes et al.\, 2019)\, where reproduction is perceived as failing in 24.9% of cases for own results\, and in 56.7% for another team’s (Mieskes et al.\, 2019). Initiatives have included the Reproducibility Challenge (Pineau et al.\, 2019\, Sinha et al.\, 2020); the Reproduction Paper special category at COLING’18; the reproducibility programme at NeurIPS’19 comprising code submission\, a reproducibility challenge\, and the ML Reproducibility checklist\, also adopted by EMNLP’20 and AAAI’21; and the REPROLANG shared task at LREC’20 (Branco et al.\, 2020). \nHowever\, reproducibility in the context of system scores obtained via human evaluations has barely been addressed at all\, with a tiny number of papers (e.g. Belz & Kow\, 2010; Cooper & Shardlow\, 2020) reporting attempted reproductions of results. The developments in reproducibility of automatically computed scores listed above are important\, but it is concerning that not a single one of the initiatives and events above addresses human evaluations. E.g. if a paper fully complies with all of the NeurIPS’19/EMNLP’20 reproducibility criteria\, any human evaluation results reported in it may not be reproducible to any degree\, simply because the criteria do not address human evaluation in any way. \nWith this workshop we wish to create a forum for current human evaluation research and future directions\, a space for researchers working with human evaluations to exchange ideas and begin to address the issues that human evaluation in NLP currently faces\, including aspects of experimental design\, reporting standards\, meta-evaluation and reproducibility. We invite papers on topics including\, but not limited to\, the following: \n\n\nExperimental design for human evaluations \n\n\nReproducibility of human evaluations \n\n\nEthical considerations in human evaluation of computational systems \n\n\nQuality assurance for human evaluation \n\n\nCrowdsourcing for human evaluation \n\n\nIssues in meta-evaluation of automatic metrics by correlation with human evaluations \n\n\nAlternative forms of meta-evaluation and validation of human evaluations \n\n\nComparability of different human evaluations \n\n\nMethods for assessing the quality of human evaluations \n\n\nMethods for assessing the reliability of human evaluations \n\n\nWork on measuring inter-evaluator and intra-evaluator agreement \n\n\nFrameworks\, model cards and checklists for human evaluation \n\n\nExplorations of the role of human evaluation in the context of Responsible AI and Accountable AI \n\n\nProtocols for human evaluation experiments in NLP \n\n\nWe welcome work on the above topics and more from any subfield of NLP (and ML/AI more generally)\, with a particular focus on evaluation of systems that produce language as output. We explicitly encourage the submission of work on both intrinsic and extrinsic evaluation. \nPaper Submission Information\nLong Papers:\nLong papers must describe substantial\, original\, completed and unpublished work. Wherever appropriate\, concrete evaluation and analysis should be included. \nLong papers may consist of up to eight (8) pages of content\, plus unlimited pages of references. Final versions of long papers will be given one additional page of content (up to 9 pages) so that reviewers’ comments can be taken into account. \nLong papers will be presented orally or as posters as determined by the programme committee. Cecisions as to which papers will be presented orally and which as posters will be based on the nature rather than the quality of the work. There will be no distinction in the proceedings between long papers presented orally and as posters. \nShort Papers:\nShort paper submissions must describe original and unpublished work. Short papers should have a point that can be made in a few pages. Examples of short papers are a focused contribution\, a negative result\, an opinion piece\, an interesting application nugget\, a small set of interesting results. \nShort papers may consist of up to four (4) pages of content\, plus unlimited pages of references. Final versions of short papers will be given one additional page of content (up to 5 pages) so that reviewers’ comments can be taken into account. \nShort papers will be presented orally or as posters as determined by the programme committee. While short papers will be distinguished from long papers in the proceedings\, there will be no distinction in the proceedings between short papers presented orally and as posters. \nReview forms will be made available prior to the deadlines. For more information on applicable policies\, see the ACL Policies for Submission\, Review\, and Citation. \nMultiple Submission Policy\nHumEval’21 allows multiple submissions. However\, if a submission has already been\, or is planned to be\, submitted to another event\, this must be clearly stated in the submission \nEthics Policy\nAuthors are required to honour the ethical code set out in the ACL Code of Ethics. \nThe consideration of the ethical impact of our research\, use of data\, and potential applications of our work has always been an important consideration\, and as artificial intelligence is becoming more mainstream\, these issues are increasingly pertinent. We ask that all authors read the code\, and ensure that their work is conformant to this code. Where a paper may raise ethical issues\, we ask that you include in the paper an explicit discussion of these issues\, which will be taken into account in the review process. We reserve the right to reject papers on ethical grounds\, where the authors are judged to have operated counter to the ACL Code of Ethics\, or have inadequately addressed legitimate ethical concerns with their work. \nPaper Submission and Templates\nSubmission is electronic\, using the Softconf START conference management system. For electronic submission of all papers\, please use: https://www.softconf.com/eacl2021/HumEval2021. SUMMARY:DigiTrust Webinar : Enka Blanchard
DESCRIPTION:The second webinar of LUE IMPACT project DigiTrust will take place on Thursday\, 15th April at 4pm. \nPostdoctoral Researcher Enka Blanchard\, working in the DigiTrust consortium\, will give a presentation entitled “Securing everyday voting with low-tech systems” \nThe webinar will take place on Teams. \nAbstract: \nVoting is often seen as a solemn activity\, with voters exercising their rights every few years in secure conditions. However\, many voting activities happen in much more common situations\, from company boardrooms to homeowners associations or employee breakrooms. Those votes often happen by raising one’s hand or at best writing down a name on a piece of paper and putting it into a hat. With the pandemic\, those votes have been harder to organise\, creating a vacuum for new systems to take hold\, and potentially presenting new opportunities.\n\nThe talk will start with an introduction to low-tech verifiable voting systems. We will then go over the impact of the pandemic and how it led us to propose a solution that is currently in use at the University of Maryland\, Baltimore County\, as well as the details of this low-tech (non-cryptographic) verifiable voting system. Finally\, I will discuss the implications this has not only for the development but more importantly for the deployment of new voting systems.\n\n\nThe talk is based on research I recently pursued with colleagues from UMBC and LaBRI. SUMMARY:MALOTEC Séminaire : Evaluating Local Explanation Methods on Ground Truth
DESCRIPTION:Evaluating local explanation methods is a difficult task due to the lack of a shared and universally accepted definition of explanation. In the literature\, one of the most common ways to assess the performance of an explanation method is to measure the fidelity of the explanation with respect to the classification of a black box model adopted by an Artificial Intelligent system for making a decision. However\, this kind of evaluation only measures the degree of adherence of the local explainer in reproducing the behavior of the black box classifier with respect to the final decision. Therefore\, the explanation provided by the local explainer could be different in the content even though it leads to the same decision of the AI system. We propose an approach that allows to measure to which extent the explanations returned by local explanation methods are correct with respect to a synthetic ground truth explanation. Indeed\, the proposed methodology enables the generation of synthetic transparent classifiers for which the reason for the decision taken\, i.e.\, a synthetic ground truth explanation\, is available by design. Experimental results show how the proposed approach allows to easily evaluate local explanations on the ground truth and to characterize the quality of local explanation methods. \n\n\nSpeaker:\nRiccardo Guidotti\, Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science (University of Pisa) and a member of the Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining Laboratory (KDDLab).\n\nOn TEAMS. SUMMARY:DigiTrust Webinar: Alfredo Cuzzocrea
DESCRIPTION:The first webinar of LUE IMPACT project DigiTrust will take place on Thursday\, 25th March at 4pm. \nProfessor Alfredo Cuzzocrea\, Excellence Chair in Computer engineering financed by DigiTrust\, will give a presentation entitled “Privacy-Preserving Big Data Management and Analytics in Distributed Environments: Models\, Issues\, Proposals” \nThe webinar will take place on Teams. \nAbstract: \nNowadays\, big data management and analytics is gaining momentum within the research community. Basically\, the main issue with big data management concerns with effectively and efficiently managing massive big data repositories for a wide variety of typical data management tasks\, such as representation\, querying\, indexing\, partitioning\, and so forth. On the other hand\, big data analytics concerns with extracting useful\, actionable knowledge from big data repositories for decision making purposes\, by extending classical approaches inherited from decades of data mining and machine learning research. In this so-delineated context\, the issue of supporting privacy-preserving big data management and analytics plays a first-class role\, especially with respect to the wide class of emerging big data application scenarios\, which range from social networks to bio-informatics\, from sensors networks to web recommendation tools\, from e-science systems to e-government systems\, and so forth. In all these applicative settings\, protecting the privacy of sensitive information\, for instance personal data or aggregate data\, can be clearly intended as an enabling technology. Distributed environments are the natural humus for collocating privacy-preserving big data management and analytics tasks\, including the astonishing raise of blockchain technology. Among others\, Cloud systems play the major role\, even stirred-up by recent technological advancements that have really enhanced the ICT industry at now. More and more today\, real-life Cloud-based applications\, such as smart cities\, intelligent transportation systems\, marketplace tools and so forth\, are indeed posing new challenges to privacy-preserving big data research\, thus contributing to improve the scientific area. \nThis seminar will explore the research challenge represented by supporting privacy-preserving big data management and analytics in distributed environments\, by exploring models and issues\, and describing some proposed solutions. In particular\, the seminar will consider the special case of supporting privacy-preserving OLAP analytics in distributed environments. This kind of big data analytics tools predicates the definition of multidimensional metaphors to be embedded into the analytics phase\, and supports the achievement of richer actionable knowledge (prone to decision making) to be extracted from distributed big data repositories. On the other hand\, the issue of supporting privacy preservation within OLAP analytics is still an open research problem\, whit many advancements still to be achieved. According to this consideration\, an innovative privacy-preserving OLAP analytics in distributed environments approach is presented in this seminar\, along with the proposal of some interesting extensions that are at now under evolution.

SUMMARY:MALOTEC Séminaire : Explainability for Sequential Decision-Making
DESCRIPTION:Machine learning has been used to aid decision-making in several domains\, from healthcare to finance. Understanding the decision process of ML models is paramount in high-stakes decisions that impact people’s lives\, otherwise\, loss of control and lack of trust may arise. Often\, these decisions have a sequential nature. For instance\, the transaction history of a credit card must be considered when predicting the risk of fraud of the most recent transaction Although RNNs are state-of-the-art models for many sequential decision-making tasks\, they are perceived as black-boxes\, creating a tension between accuracy and interpretability. While there has been considerable research effort towards developing explanation methods for ML\, recurrent models have received relatively much less attention. Recently\, Lundberg and Lee unified several methods under a single family of additive feature attribution explainers. From this family\, KernelSHAP has seen a wide adoption throughout the literature; however\, this explainer is unfit to explain models in a sequential setting\, as it only accounts for the current input not the whole sequence. In this work\, we present TimeSHAP\, a model-agnostic recurrent explainer that builds upon KernelSHAP and extends it to sequences. TimeSHAP explains recurrent models by computing feature-\, timestep-\, and cell-level attributions\, producing explanations at both the feature and time axes. As sequences may be arbitrarily long\, we further propose two pruning methods that are shown to dramatically decrease TimeSHAP’s computational cost and increase its reliability. We validate TimeSHAP by using it to explain predictions of two RNN models in two real-world fraud detection tasks\, obtaining relevant insights into these models and their predictions. \n\n\nSpeaker:\nJoão Bento\, Research Data Scientist at Feedzai working on explainability for Machine Learning models.\n\nOn TEAMS. SUMMARY:D3 seminar: Rémy Grünblatt and Mourad Dridi
DESCRIPTION:Next Department 3 seminar will take place on Monday\, 8th March at 10am with two presentations. \n10h00: De l’évaluation des performances Wi-Fi à la mobilité contrôlée pour les réseaux de drones\, par Rémy Grünblatt (INRIA Inria Lille – Nord Europe) \nFrom Wi-Fi performance evaluation to controlled mobility for drone networks \nMobility in telecommunication networks is often seen as a hassle that needs to be dealt with: a mobile wireless device has to adapt is trans-mission parameters in order to remain connected to its counterpart(s)\,as the channel evolves with the device’s movements. Drones are no exception. In this presentation\, I’ll show how controlled mobility can be used to increase the performance of a drone network\, with a focus on IEEE 802.11 networks and small multi-rotor drones.\nI will first describe how mobility is partially dealt with in 802.11 networks\, that is to say using rate adaptation mechanisms\, and I’ll present the rate adaptation algorithm used in the Intel Wi-Fi chipsets\, also used in the Intel Aero Drone\, which I reverse engineered. The study of this rate adaptation algorithm\, thanks to its implementation in the network simulator NS-3\, allows its comparison against other well-known algorithms\, and highlights how big the impact of such algorithms is\, for drone networks.\nI will then present a controlled mobility solution which leverages the antenna radiation pattern of the drones. This algorithm is evaluated thanks to a customized simulation framework for antenna and drone simulation\, based on NS-3. This solution\, which works with any rate adaptation algorithm\, is distributed\, and do not require a global coordination that would be costly. It also does not require a full and complete control of the drone mobility as existing controlled mobility solutions require\, which makes this solution compatible with various applications.

SUMMARY:Journée Fédération Charles Hermite : IA et énergie
\n15h30 Pause \nSession 2 (15h35 – 17h05) \n\n\n\n\n\nLearning Energy Efficient Processor Speeds in Real Time Systems\n\n\n\nPrésentateurs : Bruno Gaujal (Inria Grenoble – Rhône-Alpes\, LIG – Laboratoire d’Informatique de Grenoble\, UGA – Université Grenoble Alpes) \nContributeurs : Alain Girault et Stéphan Plassart (Inria Grenoble – Rhône-Alpes\, LIG – Laboratoire d’Informatique de Grenoble\, UGA – Université Grenoble Alpes) \n\n\n\n\nRésumé :\nWe present an algorithm that learns the parameters of a Markov Decision Process (MDP)\, that is then used to compute an efficient speed policy for a single core processor to execute real time jobs while minimizing its energy consumption. The learning mechanism is based on the measurement of real time jobs whose features (release time\, size and deadlines) are unknown at the begining of the learning period. Once the learning phase is completed\, the speed that the processor should use in all possible configurations of the jobs is computed and will be used in the exploitation phase to minimize the energy consumption while completing all jobs before their deadlines. \nReported experiments show that the energy consumption of the learned speed policy is very close to the case where job features are known in advance\, using both simulation of generic jobs and real traces from the automobile industry. \n2.
