SUMMARY:HDR : Karën Fort (Semagramme)

SUMMARY:Soutenance HDR : Marc Pouget (Gamble)
DESCRIPTION:Marc Pouget (Gamble) soutiendra son Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches le vendredi 24 juin à 14h en salle A008\, avec une présentation intitulée « Bivariate systems & topology of plane curves: algebraic and numerical methods ». \n\nAbstract: The work presented in this thesis belongs to the domain of non-linear computational geometry in low dimension. More precisely it focuses on solving\nbivariate systems and computing the topology of curves in the plane. When the input is given by polynomials\, the natural tools come from computer algebra. Our\ncontributions are algorithms proven efficient in a deterministic or a Las Vegas settings together with a practical efficient software for topology certified\ndrawing of a plane algebraic curve. When the input is not restricted to be polynomials but given by interval functions\, we design algorithms based on\ncertified numerical approches using subdivision and interval arithmetic. The input is then required to fulfill some generic assumptions and our algorithms\nare certified in the sense that they terminate if and only if the assumptions are satisfied.\n\nComposition du jury\nPrésidente :\nMarine Minier\, Professeure à l’Université de Lorraine\nRapporteurs :\nEvelyne Hubert\, Directrice de Recherche INRIA\, Sophia Antipolis\nSonia Pérez-Dıaz\, Professeure à l’Université d’Alcala\, Espagne\nEric Schost\, Professeur à l’Université de Waterloo\, Canada\nExaminateurs :\nDamien Chablat\, Directeur de Recherche CNRS\, Université de Nantes\nNicolas Delanoue\, Maître de conférence\, HDR\, Université d’Angers

SUMMARY:HDR - Romain Serizel (Multispeech)
DESCRIPTION:Romain Serizel (Multispeech) will defend his HDR on Tuesday\, 16th March at 2pm in room A008. \nHis presentation is entitled « Contributions to speech processing and ambient sound analysis ». \nAbstract: Contributions to speech processing and ambient sound analysis We are constantly surrounded by sounds that we continuously exploit to adapt our actions to situations we are facing. Some of the sounds like speech can have a particular structure from which we can infer some information\, explicit or not. Within the last decade\, there has been significant progress in the domain of speech and audio processing and in particular in the domain of machine learning applied to speech and audio processing. Thanks to these progresses\, speech has become a central element in many human to human distant communication tools as well as in human to machine communication systems. These solutions work pretty well on clean speech or under controlled condition. However\, in scenarios that involve the presence of acoustic perturbation such as noise or reverberation systems performance tends to degrade severely. In this thesis we focus on processing speech and its environments from an audio perspective. The algorithms proposed here are relying on a variety of solutions from signal processing based approaches to data-driven solutions based on supervised matrix factorization or deep neural networks. We propose solutions to problems ranging from speech recognition\, to speech enhancement or ambient sound analysis. The target is to offer a panorama of the different aspects that could improve a speech processing algorithm working in a real environments. We start by describing automatic speech recognition as a potential end application and progressively unravel the limitations and the proposed solutions ending-up to the more general ambient sound analysis.

SUMMARY:HDR - Rémi Badonnel (Resist)
DESCRIPTION:Rémi Badonnel (Resist) will defend his HDR (Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches) on Wednesday\, 9th March at 2pm in room A008. \nHis presentation is entitled « Managing Security for the Cyber-Space: From Smart Monitoring to Automated Configuration ». \nAbstract: The Internet has become a great integration platform for building and operating complex and value-added networked systems. These systems are however exposed to a large variety of security attacks\, that are also gaining in sophistication and coordination. In that context\, the objective of my research work is to support security management for the cyberspace\, with the elaboration of new monitoring and configuration solutions for these systems. A first axis of this work focuses on the investigation of smart monitoring methods capable to cope with low-resource networks. In particular\, we propose a lightweight monitoring architecture for detecting security attacks in low-power and lossy networks. A second axis concerns the assessment and remediation of vulnerabilities that may occur when changes are operated on system configurations. Based on vulnerability descriptions\, we design and implement dedicated strategies for improving the coverage and efficiency of vulnerability assessment activities using versioning and probabilistic techniques\, and for preventing the occurrence of new vulnerabilities during remediation operations. A third axis is dedicated to the automated configuration of virtualized resources to support security management. In particular\, we introduce a software-defined security approach for cloud infrastructures\, and analyze to what extent programmability facilities can contribute to their protection at the earliest stage\, through the dynamic generation of specialized system images with reduced attack surfaces. Complementarily\, we work on building and verification techniques for supporting the orchestration of security chains\, that are composed of virtualized network functions\, such as firewalls or intrusion detection systems. Finally\, several research perspectives on security automation are pointed out with respect to ensemble methods\, composite services and verified artificial intelligence. \n

SUMMARY:Soutenance HDR : Sorin Stratulat (Mosel-Veridis)
SUMMARY:HDR defense - Claudia Ignat (Coast)
DESCRIPTION:Claudia Ignat (Coast team) will defend her HDR (Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches)\, entitled « Large-scale trustworthy distributed collaborative systems » on Friday April 23 at 3pm. The defense will be held in English. \n \nShort abstract: \nMost existing collaborative systems rely on a central authority and place personal information in the hands of a single large corporation which is a perceived privacy threat. Moreover\, these systems do not scale well in terms of the number of users and their modifications. My research work aims to move away from centralized authority-based collaboration towards a large scale trust-based peer-to-peer collaboration where control over data is given to users who can decide with whom to share their data. The main advantages of peer-to-peer collaborative systems are high scalability and resilience to faults and attacks. \nFirst\, I describe my contributions to the design and evaluation of optimistic data replication algorithms. I also present my work on group awareness specifically on what information should be provided to users to prevent conflicting changes and to understand divergence when conflicts cannot be avoided. \nSecondly\, I describe my contributions on large scale trustworthy collaboration. I present a contract-based collaboration model where contracts are specified by the data owners when they share the data and user trust is assessed according to the observation of adherence to or violation of contracts. For testing the proposed trust-based collaboration model\, I designed a user experiment employing trust game and relying on a computational trust metric according to user exchanges in this game. \nFinally\, I present my future research directions on secure and trustworthy collaborative data management. \nKeywords: distributed collaborative systems\, operational transformation\, CRDT\, group awareness\, trust\, contract-based collaboration\, authenticated logs\, trust game\, user studies \nMore details are available here \nJury members\nReviewers\nPrasun DEWAN\, Professor at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill\nValerie ISSARNY\, Director of research at Inria\nFrançois TAIANI\, Professor at Université de Rennes I \nExaminers\nSihem AMER-YAHIA\, Director of research at CNRS\nFrançois CHAROY\, Professor at Université de Lorraine\nIsabelle CHRISMENT\, Professor at Université de Lorraine\nFabien GANDON\, Director of research at Inria\nPascal MOLLI\, Professor at Université de Nantes
