| Abdel Belaïd received his Ph.D degree in Computer Science in 1979 and his D.Sc. in 1987 from Université Henri Poincaré Nancy I, France. After a few years as an Assistant Professor in this University he joined the National Center for Scientific Research CNRS as a Research Scientist in 1984. In 2002 he became Professor at the Université Nancy 2 where he is responsible of the Master of Cognitive Science. His areas of research include Pattern Recognition, Document Analysis and Handwriting Recognition where he has authored over 120 articles in various national and international journals and conference proceedings. He has developed retroconversion techniques for logical structure recognition using part of speech tagging, handwriting recognition for on-line and off-line systems based on stochastic and neural models, and OCR platform for industrial numerisation. He is the co-author of a book, Pattern Recognition: Methods and Applications. He leads a research group READ at the UMR LORIA 7503 working on Document Analysis and Text Recognition. |
